This trail is currently under development. When completed, the Tom Thomson Trail will connect Owen Sound and Meaford, thus linking Owen Sound to the popular and well used Georgian Trail. The Georgian Trail begins at the harbour in Meaford and ends in Collingwood or starts in Collingwood and ends in Meaford, depending on your point of view. The section of trail between Owen Sound and Meaford is a challenge to complete and is known as the “missing link”, since there is no abandoned rail bed to follow. Among other things, The Tom Thomson Trail Group wants to provide a safer alternative to the dangerous Highway 26 route that currently exists and is used by some cyclists. The trail will traverse scenic pasture lands, forested areas and along quiet back county roads.
The Owen Sound end of the trail follows a path which Group of Seven artist Tom Thomson used to walk as a youth as he traveled from the family farm near Leith into the town of Owen Sound.
The Tom Thomson Trail Group hopes to have the connection made within the next 3 to 4 years.
Access: Owen Sound or Meaford Trail access at Hwy 26 outside of Owen Sound can be found at GPS coordinates N44 34.590' W080 56.166'
